Nadia Montenegro, Annabelle Rama in legal tussle

NADIA Montenegro, a former actress who ran as candidate for councilor in Caloocan City yesterday sued talent manager Annabelle Rama before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office for charges of child abuse and oral defamation while managing her two daughters’ career.

The complainant’s daughters— Anykka Allandra Pla Asistio, 15, and Alyana Alissandra Pla Asistio, 17— joined their mother in the suit, accusing to Rama, of 2170 Paraiso St., Dasmarinas Village, Makati City, of exploitation.

Montenegro of 26 Pugad Lawin St., Ayala Heights, Capitol Hills, Quezon City alleged Rama, mother of popular actor Richard Gutierrez and beauty queen Ruffa Gutierrez, had failed to rectify a provision in their management contract forcing her daughters to work for five years under her supervision, and not for three years as earlier agreed upon.

She said Rama had made her wards work for over 40 hours a week even during school days, and that convinced them to prioritize their showbiz career over their education.

In her four-page affidavit, Montenegro said Rama had scolded her two daughters for not dressing up in sexy attire, not attending social events and for refusal to entertain “powerful and influential” men.

She said she and her children wanted to end their contract with Rama.

The Montenegros also claimed that Rama also spread rumors that one of her children had a sexually transmitted disease and the other one was raped by a relative four times.

Invoking Section 2 of Republic Act 7610, Montenegro said a child 15 but below 18 shall not be allowed to work for more than eight hours a day, and in no case beyond 40 hours a week.

She said such charges against Rama are punishable by a fine of not less than P100,000, but not more than P1 million, and/or an imprisonment of not less than 12 years and one day to 20 years at the discretion of the court.

“Lastly, the verbal abuse alluded in this complaint constitutes oral defamation under Article 358 of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines,” Montenegro said in her affidavit of complaint.
